About South Calder Parish Church

Date of Establishment: 1st January 2026
We welcome you to the recently formed Parish of South Calder - a vibrant and inclusive Church of Scotland charge in North Lanarkshire. Formed from the union of the churches of Allanton, Bonkle, Cambusnethan North, Shotts Calderhead Erskine, and Coltness Memorial, Newmains. This new parish reflects a shared vision of faith, fellowship, and renewal, rooted in years of collaboration and prayerful discernment.
The Parish of South Calder lies in the heart of Lanarkshire, where urban areas meet rural landscapes. It includes the villages of Shotts, Allanton, Cambusnethan, and Newmains—closely connected communities within North Lanarkshire, Scotland. These villages share a common heritage rooted in the coal and iron industries and are located close to the town of Wishaw.

Each of the villages will bring their own history, resilience and sense of community to South Calder parish and will create a strong foundation on which to build our new church family.
